If you, like us, have been (im)patiently waiting for the eagerly anticipated Battle Angel movie, you'll have to wait a bit longer—quite a bit more, in fact—because James Cameron has made it pretty clear that it'll take at least five years before work starts on the highly popular manga Battle Angel Alita adaptation.
Seems like director/producer Cameron has kept this project close to his chest for FOREVER, and many have even felt that perhaps he should have given up the rights to the film (though no one could ever doubt that the project was always in VERY capable hands with the Oscar winner) and let someone else take a shot at the beloved story.
But no. No way. Cameron says:
"I'm obviously going to be pretty busy for the next five years [with Avatar 2 and 3]. And so I had to consider, do I hand this project off to another director? And then I thought, 'No, I love it too much.'"
Of course we kinda knew this was going to happen. After all, we recently told you that Cameron was actively working on Avatar 2 and 3, and that both films wouldn't be released until Christmas 2014 and Christmas 2015, respectively—though the two sequels are being filmed together (it's the massive amount of work needed in post-production that'll take the time).
As for what we can expect about the story, Cameron confirmed in the same breath that it will take elements from different books:
"It's such a rich world. What I'm going to do is take the spine story and use elements from the first four books. So, the Motorball from books three and four, and parts of the story of one and two will all be in the movie."
